The Flip

I have been wanting to read for so long, but I can never seem to find the time. I have so many books sitting on my shelves waiting in line. I currently have four books sitting on my head board next in line. And I am smack-dab in the middle of another that I can't wait to finish.

When I received this book it had been about two years since I had actually read a book. I know, that's horrible. Especially since I truly love to read. But as soon as I started reading The Flip I couldn't put it down. I was hooked. I actually finished it in less than a week. And now my reading fire has been reignited.

I hate anything that is scary. I will not watch scary movies. I hate haunted houses. I haven't even watched Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or Star Wars because the characters are too frightening for me. I can handle real life threats just fine, but if it's sci-fi then it's a big fat "NO!" However, I took a chance on this book and I am so glad that I did.

It wasn't bad at all. It was very suspenseful and at times frustrating, but I did not find it terrifying. I did not have bad dreams after reading this novel, which I am notorious for. It never got under my skin or made me feel uneasy. I actually found it very fascinating and compelling.

I loved the characters. They way Cash draws you into their lives is smooth and easy. I quickly became attached to each of them. Cheering them on, warning them of the foreboding danger, and gasping for air in their times of terror.

Cash depicts each scene so perfectly that you can see it for yourself. You can feel the air, see the grime, and touch the walls. The house that Julie and Brad are flipping actually have "walls that can talk." The stories unfold before you as you walk further into its halls.

I don't want to give anything away so I really don't want to tell you what the story is about or what my favorite parts are. All I can say is that is an easy, quick, and great read. When it finished I actually wanted more. I was so enveloped in the lives that were lost and the lives that were given. The history of the house was just as exciting as the present circumstances of the renovators.

I did get a little uneasy with a few parts. There were some scenes that were a little sexual. They didn't get too in-depth, but it was still more than I would recommend. They were kind of important for two of the characters to progress, but I still kind of wish that they would have avoided these parts. The descriptiveness in the moments of foreplay could have been avoided. For this reason I would not recommend it to teens that are already so heightened.

Michael Phillip Cash

All in all, I enjoyed this book. Cash is a very talented author. I hope that more people will be able to enjoy his artwork. For those that are looking for a new kind of story then I recommend this book. Just be warned that there are some suspenseful parts, some cursing, and a few sexual scenes (nothing explicit, but enough that I would warn a friend). I can't wait to read another novel by Michael Phillip Cash.

You can find The Flip on Amazon HERE.

You can also check out Cash's website HERE.

Or follow him on Twitter.

P.S. He actually gave me a bonus book that I also get to enjoy!
This will be the next book after I finish reading the one I'm currently finishing.

I received this book complimentary so that I could read it and provide an unbiased review.

Love Stinks

Love stinks.

Robin Wagner knows this better than most people. A marriage that ended in divorce has left her as distrusting as her grumpy old cat, John Wayne. Lucky for her, she has her girlfriends that are always by her side and pushing her, if not dragging her, towards happiness. In an attempt to quiet her family and friends she attempts the internet dating scene. As always, love stinks. After weeding through the losers, perverts, and psychos she finally finds prospects and gives it a go. Though not before she runs into a friend from her past that has scars of his own.

It's a story full of comedic flare and a dash of romance. It's cheeky, witty, and surprising just like Robin. It will have you laughing, hurting, and swooning all in one. I loved the witty remarks. Even the serious moments were chalked full of repartee. I fell in love with the story as soon as I started reading.

I could relate to the main character in many ways. Here is a small excerpt from Robin's online dating profile for you to enjoy:
Favorite Food: I bet that’s like asking a mom which is her favorite kid. I totally love all kinds of food as long as it doesn’t have curry in it. Currently, I’m having a bad romance with cookie dough ice cream and boneless honey barbecue wings with ranch. But not at the same time. Shhh…they don’t know about each other.

Although I did get a little nervous. After reading the prologue and getting a couple of chapters into the book I thought I might have accidentally dipped into a XXX novel. I found relief when it never actually got into the details of her romances. There are many sexual mentions scattered about and so it is definitely an adult read. For those that are bothered by panty-dropping references this is probably not a book for you.

There is also a lot of cursing. I am usually bothered by the use of swear words. I think they are demeaning and lack purpose. Though, in this book they help to create the character. Robin is not a proper lady like her mother. She is bold, rough, and unapologetic. She knows who she is and what she wants. She is unwilling to change for anyone, especially a man. If cursing is too offensive to you then I would not recommend this book to you either.

But the story is great. I loved this novel by Paulette Oakes. It had me hooked immediately. I could not put it down. I actually kept my daughters up until 11pm just so I could finish it. It was that captivating! It is one of the best stories that I have read in a long time. Paulette is a truly talented writer.

I knew it was a good book because I was sad when it ended. Luckily, it's not completely over. It is part of the Love Me Right series. Love Hurts will be the next book. I cannot wait for it to be released so that I can continue reading and following the story. The cliffhanger was too much for me to bear.

If you're looking for your next addicting read then this is a great choice. I highly suggest this book to anyone that has ever been hurt by love or is just looking for a book that they can jump into, heart and all.

You can find it on Amazon HERE.

I was given this opportunity to read this novel for free in return for an honest review.
